North Harris College’s adult education program offers a wide variety of free Basic English as a Second Language and English Literacy and Civics classes at more than nine locations in the north Houston area including the college’s main campus, Parkway Center, Aldine High School and other convenient places.
Basic ESL classes are for immigrant adults who do not speak English as their native language. The program has beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. The courses focus on developing speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills needed for everyday life in the United States. No fee is charged for this course. Assessment test schedule begins July 16 through Aug. 4 depending on location, classes begin Aug. 13.
English Literacy and Civics program, also available at nine locations in the Spring and Aldine areas, teaches students English, reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking skills. The classes will prepare students to become better citizens by learning English and about U.S. systems of government, banking, education, healthcare, and community resources. After completing this course, students may move on to Adult Basic Education or GED classes at North Harris College.
